CDOT DUI CAMPAIGN
Our agency partner, CIG (Communications Infrastructure Group) contacted our Director James and his Zerosun crew in early December of 2016. CDOT had approved a last minute budget to produce a commercial campaign for the first and second quarter of 2017 that focused on habitual offenders who were caught driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. There wasn’t much time to get the project moving into development, so CIG and Zerosun worked out a fast budget range and timeline, and within 2 weeks of initial contact, we were assembling our field production crews to film in medium security level correctional facilities in all corners of Colorado.
Teamwork makes the dream work
James worked closely with Nick and Sam at CIG on pre-production and coordinating, while also developing the creative direction with CIG’s Creative Director, at the time, Kendall Peterson. Dani worked on coordinating the field crews, building field production treatments, location and credential approvals and other client correspondence.
Zerosun was depended on to take the creative, that was pitched and approved by CDOT and CIG, and execute the vision to perfection.
“Zerosun has got it going on. Every member of their team that I’ve worked with has been highly professional and undeniably talented. There isn’t a creative project that comes to us where we don’t consider Zerosun. They are very hands on and truly dive into whatever topic they’re covering. They take ownership of the project while also allowing our vision to be realized. The experience has consistently been great! We’ve presented unique challenges across several projects and Zerosun has always stepped up to deliver an exceptional finished product.” – Nick Harper, Senior Associate, CIG
Our field productions consisted of traveling all over the state with a 6 person production crew (Director, Producer, DP, Second Camera, Sound Tech, PA) on numerous days to correction facilities in Trinidad, Canon City and Denver, as well as a rehab center in Denver Metro. We accumulated 11 interviews over the course of a few weeks (English and Spanish). Our subjects ranged from complicated to emotional, conversing with incarcerated DUI vehicular homicide offenders to severe drug addicted offenders.
The campaign was expected to be rolled out early January with deliverables set at eight :30 second spots, six :15 second spots for broadcast on all major stations across Colorado and other assets for print and digital ad campaigns.
Our Post-Production process for this project was extremely thorough. We transcribed all interviews and had our client bold the most important content. Zerosun then cut all final scripts and sound-bytes while being given full creative responsibility to produce the most emotional and compelling commercials possible. Since we understood the direction and wishes of not only our agency client, CIG, but the Colorado Department of Transportation, and given the tightened deadlines, our producers delivered and executed the exact visions of the client from pre-production.
