SINCE PRODUCING OUR FIRST VIDEO FOR DENVER ARTS AND VENUES IN 2011, WE’VE BECOME A GO-TO CONTACT FOR THIS AGENCY’S CREATIVE VISUAL MARKETING NEEDS.
Denver Arts and Venues needed a production crew that is reliable and versatile enough to take on a variety of projects. Whether it’s a series of animated videos for a new campaign or documentary-style profile videos, they trust us to bring any concept to life through efficient and creative planning, production, and post.
Our relationship with Denver Arts and Venues is a unique one. We’ve built a strong rapport with our DAV contacts, and they know we will lay out the red carpet for them on projects big and small. Because they trust the quality of our productions so much, they put us on a retainer for work throughout the year.
We’ve produced dozens of videos for DAV, but here’s a behind the scenes look at a few of our favorites:
DENVER PERFORMING ARTS COMPLEX: THE NEXT STAGE
THE PROJECT:
Create three animated videos to educate, inform, and motivate the public to get involved in Denver Performing Arts Complex (DPAC) upcoming renovations.
THE CHALLENGE:
We were given very few assets to complete this project—only a theme for each of the three videos, plus a simple logo and color palette.
THE RESULT:
After scripting and storyboarding, our team came together to create an entire animated world where the videos would take place. DAV loved the final designs so much that they built their campaign website, communication materials, and other marketing materials using the concept we crafted from scratch.

THE FIRST TWO VIDEOS ARE LIVE, AND A THIRD WAS COMPLETED FOR THE CAMPAIGN IN MARCH 2016.
MAYOR’S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN ARTS & CULTURE
THE PROJECT:
Each year, 4-6 individuals and organizations are recognized for making “significant and lasting contributions to the artistic, cultural, and creative landscape in the City and County of Denver.” Since 2013, Zerosun has been tasked with creating a 2-3 minute video profile for each of the Mayor’s Award winners.
THE CHALLENGE:
Logistically, this project is like solving a Rubix cube of moving parts, locations, and people. Solving time from pre-production to delivery of finished videos—4 weeks.
THE RESULT:
For the 2015 awards, there were six recipients. Each was filmed during a half-day shoot, totaling three days of shoot time, three crew members on each shoot. Four weeks later, all six videos were delivered with a total of ZERO revisions from the DAV team.
WATCH:
URBAN ARTS FUND
THE PROJECT:
We were tasked with creating a documentary-style video to profile Denver Arts & Venues Urban Arts Fund. For over a month, we would document the progress of 2 murals being painted by very different artists.
THE CHALLENGE:
In addition to following the progress of our artists, we would need to shoot video of 18 total murals across the city that were funded to be completed in 2015. These murals were anywhere and everywhere from a highway overpass to a local swimming pool to a small alleyway. Capturing them all efficiently took planning and great communication between all parties involved.
THE RESULT:
Although the piece is over seven minutes long, the vibrant, beautiful images along with perfectly paired music and thoughtful interviews make this story meaningful and emotive. We’re excited and proud to add this video to our portfolio of work.

EVERYTHING TO DO
Although this video was produced nearly 2 years ago, we’re still pretty dang proud of it. In fact, it’s still on the Devner Arts & Venues “About Us” Page.
Our own Andrew Morrisey wrote the moving, poetic narrative that carries the piece. The images are a collection of the most intimate, most human shots we were able to capture over 3-4 years working on DAV projects.
We’re also proud of this video because, as Denverites, we stand behind the message and feel fortunate to call this city our home.
